It all started when
Maria stumbled upon painted wooden peg dolls and began creating them for her kids. She began painting them for nieces and nephews and god-children... and just couldn't stop sharing the joy of a simple wooden peg with those she loved. In 2016, Maria opened her shop doors.
She named the shop Punch & Judy Pegs in honor of the joyful, buoyant philosophy of one of her favorite authors, G.K. Chesterton. Chesterton believed that Fairy Tales are true, that Play is serious business, and that being alive is the grandest of adventures. In his autobiography, Chesterton wrote at length on the importance of play, of toys, of imagination, and of childhood on his development. He makes it clear that you will not understand him or his philosophy if you don't understand that all of his travels and successes "mean less to me than Punch and Judy on Campden Hill."
joined Maria's family as a new sister-in-law; she brought more than just a joyful spirit - she had quite a talent with the paintbrush as well!
In 2019, Maria and her family began their next big life adventure and closed the shop; Ulyana reopened it shortly after! With a constant positive feedback from the ever-growing fan base and a desire to leap, Ulyana expanded her Punch and Judy Pegs platform to an independent online shop.
She continues to paint little wooden pegs to honor the defense of seriousness of small things, the truth of the imagination, and the momentous value of play.
